Mass Wasting /\/\/\ Mass wasting, such as landslides and soil erosion, is a natural hazard in Belize, but not really a threat, however particularly in areas with steep terrain and heavy rainfall. To mitigate the risks of these events, Belize has implemented a variety of strategies. Slope stabilization techniques, like terracing and retaining walls, help prevent soil movement, while revegetation with native plants anchors the soil, reducing erosion. Improved drainage systems and controlled water runoff also redirect rainwater away from vulnerable areas, preventing saturation that could trigger landslides.
